Ishi-Ryoku  Jutsu

Street Smart Self-Defence

Ishi-Ryoku Jutsu is a martial art for the 21st Century, combining the discipline of traditional Karate and Ju-Jitsu techniques, with the more modern aspects of self defence that really work in the street.

Whilst any martial art is only as good as its practitioner, a thorough knowledge of the principles of self defence will instil a person with confidence, making them less likely to become a target.

Who We Are

Ishi-Ryoku Jutsu helps people to defend themselves in a society that is becoming increasingly more violent.
We do not promote violence, but instead teach our students to look for every opportunity to find a peaceful solution to a situation of conflict. The main focus of Ishi-Ryoku Jutsu is one of self-defence.

Techniques

Ishi-Ryoku Jutsu draws from the traditional techniques of Ju-Jitsu , Shotokan Karate, Judo, Chin-na, Aiki-Jutsu, Thai Boxing, and Tuite Grappling. It is a street smart blend of stand up and ground fighting, which focuses almost entirely on self-defense and being smart enough to avoid confrontation if possible.

  The Founder

Ishi-Ryoku Jutsu was developed by Sensei Christopher Foley, Rokudan (6th dan). Chris is the Soke, or founder of this system, as well as its chief instructor. The genesis of his system was the desire to create a martial art that combined "stand up" and "ground" combat techniques that were very "street efficient", and quick to learn. This combined with the strong emphasis on the psychology of self defence, has produced an outstanding system that works well from the first lesson.

  Philosophy Corner

A careful study of history will show that martial or fighting arts existed long before the eastern martial arts that we have come to think of as the "Original" martial arts. As an example, Karate was introduced to Japan by Gichin Funakoshi in 1922, which was only 75 years ago, but the martial arts can be seen in Egyptian bare handed fighting techniques as depicted in  pyramid wall murals and hieroglyphics from around 4000 BC.  Clearly the martial arts predate the orient and point back to their common origin which is to be found in Biblical times. Ishi-Ryoku Jutsu has no connections with any eastern religions or philosophies, but adheres rather to the Christian philosophy of life.

The Four Elements Of Self-Defence

The four elements of self-defence that an Ishi-Ryoku Jutsu practitioner must master are:
1. Talk your way out of trouble. 90% of conflicts can be avoided by responding peacefully when provoked.
2. Walk away. Any fight you can walk away from is a good fight because nobody gets hurt.
3. Run. If the aggressor won't back off, run.....many people have been badly hurt because their pride wouldn't let them clear out.

4. Fight. If all else fails, hit fast and hard and get out of there.
