Easy Ways to Save Money |
Reduce Your Energy Bill:
- Clean your dryer filter after each use, or
better yet use the clothes line.
- Don’t turn your dishwasher
on for only a few plates
- Change your lights to the
more energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.
- Insulate your home to
reduce the cost of cooling and heating.
Around the Home:
- Empty your change into a
money box each day. This can calculate into a lot over a year.
- Know your phone plans. Find
out when off-peak times are to call long distance or mobiles.
- Save money on cartridges by
changing your printer’s output to grayscale if colour is not
required.
- Sell your clutter on eBay
or hold a garage sale.
At the Shops:
- Buy clothes for next year
at the end of the season when they go on sale.
- Buy generic. Flour is
flour, sugar is sugar. Save “brand names” for the things you really
enjoy.
- Stock up on groceries that
you use regularly when they are on sale.
- Write a shopping list
before you go to the supermarket. Check what you ‘really’ need and
stick to you list.
- Don’t shop on an empty
stomach. This prevents impulse purchases on
snack food.
Entertainment:
- Do an internet search for
free events happening in your area.
- Frequent your local
library.
- Take your own lunch to work
and your own snacks and drinks to the movies.
- If you smoke or drink,
stop! Just think of how much you spend on these unhealthy habits.
- Choose haircuts that do not
require frequent trimming, or learn to cut your own hair.
Banking:
- Look for lower interest
rates – transferring the balance of your high interest credit cards
to a lower interest card could potentially save you hundreds of
dollars a year.
- Reduce your interest by
making weekly or fortnightly payments on your loan instead of
monthly.
